Get involved

How to take an active part in maintaining the community wildspace.

Use and enjoy

The easiest way to get involved is simply to use the riverside walk. At the moment, the riverside space doesn't attract as many walkers as it might and paths get overgrown. Our aim is to reverse the cycle of neglect by encouraging more people to use the walk. So - in the company of friends - take a stroll in green surroundings. Enjoy the sound and smells of nature. Soak up the quiet ambience of this hidden gem.

Hard labour

For those that would like to take a more active role, there are occasional days when volunteers get together to work on the site. Volunteers have come from the members of the steering group, associated groups like those affiliated to the Green Light Trust and the local Scout group. But anyone can come along and lend a hand. The work involves manual labour, often clearing litter, sometimes cutting and clearing foliage. There is sometimes hard landscaping to do, under the supervision of Braintree District Council officers, erecting fences, gates and the like. These occasions are usually posted here, but we are now compiling an e-mail list of people who are willing to come along and lend a hand. If you would like to be informed please send an e-mail to the secretary@hedingham-riverside-walk.org.uk

Experts wanted

We're constantly on the look out for knowledgeable people willing to share their knowledge with visitors to the Riverside Walk. Do you have a passion for nature? Or maybe you know about local history or how the river was used in times past. We try to organise regular events that anyone can come along to. If you know your arthropod from your arachnid and can give a few hours of your time, we'd love to hear from you.

Give us your comments

Do you have a comment about the riverside walk or about this website? Have you seen something of interest when you've been using the walk? Or do you want to ask a question? We're always interested to hear what you think. Give us your comments here.

The steering group are campaigning for pedestrian access from the south end of the walk onto the Alderford Mill site. Currently the walk ends where it is blocked by a deep gully and there is no option but to turn round and retrace your steps. We'd like the walk to go to the Mill and we'd like visitors to the Mill to be able to enjoy the walk. Although there is progress toward agreement on the bridge, we would still like people to show their support. We aim to show there is a strong desire within the community for the project. Please sign our online petition and support our campaign for this important improvement.
